DOE Finalizes Efficiency Standards for Water Heaters to Save Americans Over $7 Billion on Household Utility Bills Annually
Finalized residential water heater standards have strong industry and stakeholder support, will accelerate the deployment of heat pump water heaters, and represent largest energy savings action by the Appliance Standards Program in history
The Department of Energy (DOE) released their final rule for updated water heater efficiency standards on April 30, 2024. AWHI stakeholders have been following this rulemaking closely for the last several years as it is poised to be a significant driver of heat pump water heater adoption. DOE estimates that when the rule goes into effect, in 2029, this will result in “over 50% of the newly manufactured electric storage water heaters to utilize heat pump technology.” The updated standards are expected to save Americans on their energy bills and reduce CO2 emissions by 332 million metric tons. Congratulations to all the individuals and organizations who helped make this new standard a reality! AWHI looks forward to helping the water heating industry transition to a future of accelerated HPWH adoption. Learn more
Join us for an upcoming event online, topics include combination heat pumps for space and water heating and all electric equipment for commercial kitchens.
This webinar will delve into combination space and water heating systems, also known as combi systems. While these systems seem promising, they present a level of complexity that raises questions about their practicality. The current market boasts standalone heat pump water heaters and space conditioning heat pump systems. In this webinar we will explore whether it is possible to merge them into a singular device and not sacrifice efficiency and cost. Learn more and register
Join us for an online Roundtable that explores electric equipment for commercial kitchens. Commercial kitchen electrification is a growing movement. Reasons include safety, improved cooking, easier cleaning, better operations, efficient space utilization, and lower costs for installation and operations (depending on location). It is an important movement for building decarbonization and with more municipalities and air districts imposing restrictions on gas-fueled appliances, smart planning. Learn more and register
